The Sargassum season draws many visitors to Hon Kho Island.
Summer is the perfect time to visit Hon Kho Island (Quy Nhon City, Binh Dinh province) as this is when the beautiful Sargassum seaweed thrives in these waters. The small island becomes encircled by thick, golden fields of Sargassum, shimmering beneath the crystal-clear blue sea, creating a magical landscape that entices tourists to explore and go diving.
A Vibrant Canvas of Colors.
Hon Kho, also known as Hon Kho Islet, is part of Nhon Hai fishing village, located about 20 km from Quy Nhon City. From mid-May until the end of August is the Sargassum season in this area, painting a truly stunning picture. Many tourists and photographers choose to visit during this time to admire the scenery and capture beautiful shots.
Nhon Hai fishing village is an emerging tourist destination, captivating visitors with its gorgeous beaches and colorful coral reefs that are almost perfectly preserved. Here, Sargassum seaweed often attaches itself to submerged rocks and coral reefs. June and July are when the seaweed grows tallest and densest, with long fronds floating on the water's surface, creating a golden, undulating field that feels like a fairytale land, enchanting everyone who sees it.

Seen from above, the golden patches of seaweed create a stunning landscape unlike many other places.
Sargassum seaweed is a gift from nature, bestowed upon the Quy Nhon coastline. This type of seaweed is a marine algae with both nutritional value and medicinal properties. The harvesting of Sargassum for export provides income and improves the lives of the local people here.
During the Sargassum growing season, many marine creatures gather here to inhabit the intricate seaweed clusters, forming a rich marine ecosystem. Snorkeling or diving to admire the coral and Sargassum is an activity visitors absolutely shouldn't miss during this time.
When the tide recedes and the sea is calm, many tourists opt to paddle SUPs out to sea to observe the seaweed. This is also when an ancient, mysterious, and unique wall, hidden for hundreds of years beneath the sea, reappears. The wall, approximately 10 meters wide, remains an enigmatic relic, attracting many visitors who come to take photos and check-in. Especially during each Sargassum season, these walls become covered in thick layers of seaweed, forming a pathway along the sea.

Visitors can truly feel the rustic and humble charm of a peaceful fishing village from the moment they arrive.
Located just about 300 meters from the mainland, Hon Kho Island is easily visible and feels incredibly close. However, to set foot on the island, visitors need to travel by canoe or wooden boat for about 10-15 minutes.
With its pristine natural landscapes, honest and simple locals, fresh air, and many exciting activities, this place attracts both domestic and international tourists looking for green tourism experiences.
The sea around Hon Kho Islet is crystal-clear, with diverse and colorful coral reefs that captivate visitors as soon as they arrive. The beach here has quite a few rocks but is very clean, and it's also a place where sea turtles come to lay their eggs during breeding season.

The sea around Hon Kho may be small, but it's blessed by nature, making it ideal for a variety of recreational activities, scenic tours, and marine culinary experiences.
Mr. Nguyen Binh Nguyen, a representative of Hon Kho Trip, mentioned that the number of visitors during summer is steadily increasing with the arrival of the Sargassum season. "We have slightly fewer guests than last year, but it's still stable. Experience-loving tourists often return to Hon Kho multiple times and recommend us to new guests because the tourism activities here are continuously updated by our team," he shared.

Many visitors opt for a night squid fishing tour in these waters. Departing at 5:30 PM from the fishing village, a fishing boat will take guests out to sea. The fresh squid caught will then be prepared directly on board into delicious dishes, allowing everyone to savor the fruits of their labor.
The cuisine of Nhon Hai fishing village is also a major draw for visitors coming to enjoy themselves here. Guests have the opportunity to savor the specialty "bánh xèo mực" (squid sizzling pancake) of this fishing village.
