Detailed Tour Itinerary: Journey to Nghia Linh Peak
According to tradition and geographical logic, the journey to visit Hung Temple should be done in order from low to high, passing through temples located on Nghia Linh mountain.
Step 1: Temple Gate (Dai Mon)
The journey begins from the Temple Gate. Built in the 2nd year of Khai Dinh (1917), the gate has a massive three-entrance architecture with reliefs of unicorns, cups, turtles, and phoenixes. This is the starting point for you to calm down before entering the sacred realm.
Step 2: Ha Temple
From the Temple Gate, you climb over 225 stone steps to reach the Lower Temple.
Meaning: According to legend, this is the place where Au Co gave birth to a clutch of hundreds of eggs, which later hatched into a hundred sons, the origin of the two words "Compatriot".
Note: Right next to Ha Temple is the Stele House with hexagonal architecture, where stone stele recording the achievements of the Hung Kings are placed.
Step 3: Trung Temple (Hung Vuong To Mieu)
Continue climbing another 168 stone steps, you will reach Trung Temple.
Meaning: This is where the Hung kings, Lac marquis and Lac generals admired the scenery and met to discuss state affairs. In particular, this is also the place where Prince Lang Lieu offered banh chung and banh giay in the contest to find a successor to the throne.
Step 4: Upper Temple (Kinh Thien Linh Dien)
Passing 102 stone steps from Trung Temple, you will reach the top of Nghia Linh mountain at an altitude of 175m - where Thuong Temple is located.
Meaning: This is the highest place, where the Hung Kings often set up altars to heaven and earth, worshiping the god of rice to pray for good weather and good crops.
Architecture: The temple has the word "Vuong" (王) in the style of ancient royal architecture. Here, you will also see the oath stone pillar of Thuc Phan An Duong Vuong, vowing to protect the country.
Step 5: Hung Vuong's Tomb
Located right next to Thuong Temple is Hung Vuong's Tomb (legend is the tomb of the 6th Hung King). The mausoleum has a very beautiful feng shui position: "Knees on high mountains, feet on long rivers", overlooking the crane intersection.
Step 6: Gieng Temple (Ngoc Tinh)
After burning incense at the top of the mountain, you go down in the other direction to reach Gieng Temple.
Significance: This place worships two princesses Tien Dung and Ngoc Hoa (daughters of the 18th Hung King). The two women were instrumental in teaching people how to grow wet rice and weave silk. In the temple, there is a jade well with clear blue water all year round, which is said to be where the two ladies looked in the mirror and combed their hair.
